A fearlessly critical assessment of the Mahatma

Gandhi's beliefs — lofty, obstinate and precarious as they were — could unequivocally be taken as in the similar vein of “love conquers all”. His narcissist beliefs manifested in his ideology as “a Satyagrahi can't fail”. He emplaced himself unto such wuthering heights that it had become impossible to criticise him and not be called a traitor. He crafted such a formidable identity that deterred all criticism. To quote Godse, “Mahatma became the judge and jury in his own case.”

Satyagraha: The Silver Bullet

“These childish insanities and obstinacies, coupled with a most severe austerity of life, ceaselesswork and lofty character made Gandhi formidable and irresistable” — Nathuram Godse, 1948.

In other words, his austerity had been an elaborate scheme to herald his supreme opinion silencing all oppoisition. It provided a moral high ground for Congress to retain their facist power through alienating a person or a group in not just political, but also social spheres.

Muslim Appeasement

His career in votebank politics launched with his support for the Caliphate movement, and culiminated in the Gandhi-Ambedkar conflict regarding the notorious Communal Award — introduced by the Britishers to disperse the freedom struggle.

Gandhi would rather fast than provide other Varnas more electoral seats. Ambedkar, a dalit, sought to burn Manusmirti as a protest against the systemic oppression perpetuating ever since the Vedic ages.

Partition: Cause & Effect

The Muslim League became disillusioned of Gandhi's hollow promises of communal harmony, and enthusiastically advocated for a partition. His desparate pleas failed to keep them abound, and resulted in the bitter partition of countless communal riots, rapes and other atrocities.

The partition was communal, and yet the country was declared “secular”. Those who went through the horrors were conviniently forgotten, their struggles swept under the carpet of political bureaucracy as had always occured throughout the human history.

The newly established Neheru government had largely been apathetic towards Bangladeshis (East Pakistan), and were forced to live in inhumane conditions. Even after nearly eighty years of independence, communal violence against minority Hindus in Muslim-dominated countries hasn't been yet subsided; they raped, murdered, and burned alive for simply being a Hindu, and the “secular” political parties remain all silent.

Votebank Politics

Of all these who seek refuge from this hellscape, flee into India as illegal immigrants; various political parties then capitalise off their plight, helping to create all sorts of fraudlent documents in exchange of electoral advantage.

Contemporary votebank politics is a resurrection of Gandhian ideals of the colonial period, adapted to meet the present reality. It's ironic how Gandhi became the voice of the underrepresented, while he was there in South Africa spewing racist things about the indegenious people there.

He was the father of a spineless nation.
